Sugarcane finds its mention in ancient Indian vedas/scriptures due to its many healing properties. It is also not uncommon to see canes of sugarcane in many Indian pujas. It is also very common in some regions to have sugarcane in Prashad. In fact, the main ingredient for any prashad is sugarcane because the typical mishri you find in prashad at mandir is made of sugarcane only.

Sugarcane is the source of all the sweetness in our food, be it jaggery or sugar. Although processed white sugar is proven to be harmful in the long run, the unprocessed juice of sugarcane is not. In fact, having sugarcane juice in moderation has many health benefits and is also fit for people fighting with liver illnesses such as Jaundice.

But, if you are not a fan of raw sugarcane juice and still want to benefit from the goodness of sugarcane, here are tried and tested, most sought after welcome drink recipes made from sugarcane juice.

Sugarcane Fruit Punch

Ingredients :

  • 1 sugarcane stick
  • Half glass of orange and mosambi juice
  • Black salt to taste

Fill the glass half with orange and mosambi juice, then in the other half add freshly churned sugarcane juice made with Rigor sugarcane juicer. Add black salt as per taste. Garnish with pudina leaves and your Sugarcane fruit punch is ready. Enjoy it with a book on a warm Sunday afternoon or serve to your loved ones or guests. (The recipe is for one person, measure the ingredients twofold for two people and so on).

Sugarcane Adrak Pudina Punch

Ingredients :

  • 1 sugarcane stick
  • A small-sized ginger
  • 10-15 fresh large-sized Pudina leaves

Churn the sugarcane using Rigour sugarcane juice machine. Add the juice in a glass. Now in your mixer, add fresh pudina leaves and ginger and make a fine paste. Do not add much water in the paste, just enough to mix the pudina leaves and ginger properly. Now, in the sugarcane juice glass mix this paste and mix thoroughly with a spoon. Add ice if you want and garnish with fresh pudina leaves. Add a pinch of black salt or table salt for taste. Enjoy as a first meal during breakfast or followed by lunch/dinner.
